 Being the Queen is  often wonderful, sometimes it is difficult.  Since my stroke in 2023, things have gone from hard to harder in no time.   Not only have I lost more than almost 3 years time, but I have missed my granddaughters dance recitals, but also Special Olympics, dances, dinners, family trips, vacations, school events, church programs, family gatherings, school photo days,  and funerals! On December 20, 2023 the grandchildren and I were baking cookies to send to family members when I suffered a stroke at home.  Thankfully the children knew what to do.  After calling 9-1-1 and giving the information to the dispatcher.  The children put our dog in the kennel, to keep it safe.  Within minutes our yard was filled with  neighbors,family, and people wishing me well and a fast recovery.   I really did not think hunger would. It would be an issue at my age. Living here, meals are prepared, and it is eat or go hungry. Tonight, the grilled fish smelled too bad to eat.   As I celebrated my son's 33rd birthday here in the rehab center, I am reminded how terribly I miss home and family. I am more determined than ever to find property and build a kit home. The homes are affordable and look nice. I'm ready to leave here. Please consider donating; even $5 will be more than I had before. I don't want to spend another holiday or family event here!  Still here in the Nursing/Rehab center.  I woke up to three different Zombies in my room last night. Since this is a non-restraining unit, the zombies walk into other rooms, stealing belongings all the time. One my 'grandchildren's photos has been missing for weeks.  I don't care if they are eight or eighty-eight, come in my room, you will be playing the game of "fool around and find out". Things on bedside tables tend to disappear.  One morning, my phone and glasses were gone. A CNA found them in a room 7 doors down from mine, a Zombie, must have taken both together.      While I am grateful not to be sleeping under a pile of cardboard. But the Zombies here are out of control. As the grandchildren and I were making Christmas cookies, I suffered a stroke.  Turns out I was in great hands.  My grandchildren were well-trained in emergencies,   Zoie calmly phoned 9-1-1 and gave the address like a pro, not a small child. Toby gathered our dog and put it in the kennel. All children should be able to provide their address and the type of emergency. And this began my 16-plus months of attempting to go home. If my two little heroes had not helped me, I might not be here. So when I say my favorite heroes don't wear capes, I mean they wear book bags instead.
